Cody Canada (born May 25, 1976 in Pampa , Texas ) is an American country singer of the Red Dirt and Texas Country scene. He became known as the front man of the band Cross Canadian Ragweed .

biography

Band career

Cody Canada was born in Pampas, Texas in 1976. Discovered his passion for music at the age of five when his parents took him to a George Strait concert . He started playing the guitar when he was eight. He and his family moved to Stillwater , Oklahoma, when he was 16 . At the age of 18 he was on stage with Mike McClure . In 1994 he founded the Red Dirt band Cross Canadian Ragweed with drummer Randy Ragsdale and guitarist Grady Cross. Four years after their founding, the young musicians released their first studio album in 1998. In the early 2000s Canada was able to celebrate major commercial successes with the group for the first time when the albums made it into the top 10 of the country charts . After internal problems Canada announced the split of the band in September 2010. With his bassist Jeremy Plato, Seth James , who was already active as a solo artist , and two other musicians, he founded the follow-up band The Departed in 2011, which released their first CD in June 2011.

Other Projects

Since moving, Cody Canada has become an integral part of Oklahoma's red dirt scene and has worked with numerous other artists without his band. One of his first studio projects was a collaboration with the "Godfather of Red Dirt", Bob Childers . With the band he also appeared on The Great Divide's Dirt and Spirit album , and a year later he was involved in Mike McClure's debut album, Twelve Pieces . Canada also worked with Stoney LaRue . He was involved in his album The Red Dirt Album and toured with him in 2011.

In November 2013 he released his first solo album Some Old, Some New, Maybe a Cover or Two , which reached number 11 in the folk charts and number 35 in the country charts.

Private life

In 1998 Canada married his girlfriend Shannon. She also supports him as a manager. Together with their sons Dierks Cobain and Willy Vedder, they live in New Braunfels , Texas.
