Dirt and Spirit is the fifth studio album by the US country band The Great Divide , which the group recorded with many other interpreters of the Red Dirt scene under the name The Great Divide & Friends .

Dirt and Spirit is an acoustic album with gospel songs. It is mostly about religion and God. It was the band's third album to be released on an independent label . It was recorded back in 1999. Since the band did not initially find a label for the album, it was initially only released in January 2000 in a few stores in Oklahoma, Texas, Nebraska and Tennessee. It wasn't until February 2001 that a label released it.

The staff consisted of former The Great Divide members Mike McClure , JJ Lester and Kelley Green, as well as various Red Dirt musicians who had already had solo careers: Bob Childers , Stoney LaRue and Tom Skinner . The line-up was completed by the bands Cross Canadian Ragweed , as well as the Red Dirt Rangers and the newcomer Susan Gibson . The album was produced by front man Mike McClure.

The sales for the album were disappointing. No chart positions were reached.
