The Red Dirt Rangers are an American country band from Stillwater , Oklahoma .
history
The Red Dirt Rangers were founded in 1989 in Stillwater , the center of the Red Dirt music scene. Since then, the core of the group has been Ben Han (from Borneo ), John Cooper (* 1958, from Oklahoma City ) and Bradley Piccolo (* 1961, from Stillwater).
The rest of the cast has changed several times. On the debut album Cimarron Soul , which was released on cassette in 1991, Han, Cooper and Piccolo were supported by Dave Clark, Charlie Peadon, KC Moon, Scotty Buxton, Bob Wiles and Alan Crider. The two accordionists Moon and Peadan left the band before in Tulsa 's second album Red Dirt was recorded. It was published on CD in 1993. For the third album Oklahoma Territory , which was released in 1997, Benny Craig ( fiddle and pedal steel guitar ) joined the band. It was produced by Lloyd Maines , and Bob Childers also worked as a songwriter on several songs. Also Ranger's Command (1999) on which a cover of the Prince -Song 1999 can be heard, was produced by Maines, while Steve Ripley , the 2002 album Starin 'Down the Sun was responsible.
On June 26, 2004, Cooper, Piccolo and Han survived a helicopter accident near Cushing in which two people were killed. Fully recovered, the musicians released their fifth album Ranger Motel in 2007 , on which Randy Crouch and Don Morris were also listed as band members for the first time in addition to the original members .
The musicians cite artists such as Bob Dylan , the Rolling Stones and Woody Guthrie as role models , whose songs they regularly cover. They play a mix of different genres such as folk , country , rock , gospel , blues , Tex-Mex and Cajun, which is typical of the Red Dirt scene .
engagement
The Red Dirt Rangers are committed to a fairer health system and better access to health insurance. They have also set up a fund to financially support musicians from Oklahoma with health problems.
