History of origin

After the albums Break in the Storm and Revolutions at Atlantic Records were released, the band had canceled its contract as the new head of the major labels did not want to continue to support. After a few months, the four musicians decided to record a new album. Since they couldn't afford a studio, they rented the historic Will Rogers Theater in Oklahoma City, where they got their recordings done within two weeks. The unconventional studio replacement turned out to be difficult for the group, as they were repeatedly disturbed by construction workers during the recordings.

Afterglow was released on CD and cassette on October 31, 2000 under the Broken Bow Records label . The album was produced by Danny Miller, who replaced Lloyd Maines .

reception

The album received mixed reviews. Lisa Young from Country Music Television praised the acoustics in the old cinema, which produced a "warm and inviting sound". The music is honest and refreshing. The verdict from Billboard magazine was also positive. Afterglow is a country / rock album with great moments. The author also praised McClure's voice.

Country Standard Time's Robert Wooldridge came to a rather negative judgment. He noticed that the band was getting closer and closer to the mainstream under their new producer. McClure and his bandmates are "good musicians", but as a songwriter he does not succeed in offering anything new. The same was criticized by John Metzger from The Music Box magazine , who ultimately remarked that fans of Robert Earl Keen and Uncle Tupelo would like the album . It awarded three out of five stars. From the side Allmusic got Afterglow an average verdict. Two and a half stars out of five were awarded.

Songs

Except for Livin 'Like Thanksgivin' , which was written by Mike McClure, Kelley Green and Scott Copeland, all of the songs are written by McClure.

The first single from the album was released in October 2001 Days Go . The title Out of Here Tonight received a music video is the only song on the album, in which Peter Zavadil directed. The video was shot in Lockhart , Texas in February 2001 . On October 13th, Wild Horses was released as the third and final single.

The song Floods is a hidden track .
