background
Remain was the follow-up album to Dirt and Spirit in 2002 , which the band had recorded with other musicians from the so-called Red Dirt scene, including Bob Childers , Cross Canadian Ragweed and Tom Skinner . At the same time it was the last album for the group with frontman, songwriter and producer Mike McClure , who had already released his first solo album Twelve Pieces a few months before the release of Remain . McClure then decided to found the Mike McClure Band and at the same time stepped out of his old band in 2003 as the first founding member.
The recordings for the album were made in an unusually long period of four months in three different studios in Nashville . Chris Leuzinger was the producer. On November 5, 2002, Remain was officially released.
The album consists of ten songs, most of which were written by Mike McClure himself. Only for the song Bummin 'Around did he get support from Scott Copeland . The album is named after his title track Remain , which McClure and his band set to music for the album Camelot Falling in 2005 . The last song on the album is a hidden track . The title Lost in the Night was released as a single .
reception
The Billboard magazine described the album as "excellent" mix of country and rock music.
The album received great praise from the German-speaking website “Rocktimes”. The reviewer heard "precise songs with beautiful melodies" and compared the band to musicians JJ Cale and Van Morrison . The songs Fly On , Lost In The Night , Remain , Gypsy Steel , Bummin 'Around and Mary Hold On were highlighted as particularly good . Reviewer Bobby Allison-Gallimore also came to a positive verdict, even if, unlike Revolutions , published in 1999, none of the songs would have hit properties. “Highly recommended” is the verdict of musikansich.de, which emphasizes the successful genre mix of rock and country .
From a commercial point of view, however, the group could not follow up on the successes they celebrated during the late 1990s with Atlantic Records . Neither the album nor the single Lost in the Night could reach the genre charts.
