Cross Canadian Ragweed was an American country band .
history
Beginnings (1994-2002)
The Cross Canadian Ragweed group was formed in 1994 in Stillwater , Oklahoma . The band name is a combination of the different names of the band members: Cody Canada, Randy Ragsdale and Grady Cross are all represented by their family names. The name of the bass player Matt Wiedmann, however, was not represented. He was eventually replaced by Jeremy Plato. The four young musicians released their first two albums, Carney and Highway 377 , on the Smith Music Group label . While these remained largely unnoticed and could not reach the charts , they achieved their first notable success in 2002 with the release of their new album Cross Canadian Ragweed . The CD, which was released for the first time by Universal South Records , which had just started a year earlier , reached number 70 on the country album charts .
Successes (2004–2009)
Their final breakthrough in the country scene came with their fourth studio work Soul Gravy , with which they made it into the top regions of the genre charts and for the first time into the Billboard 200 . With a top placement of number 5 in the country album charts, it was also the group's most successful work. She was able to confirm these successes with the successors Garage (2005) and Mission California (2007). In 2009, her title Boys from Oklahoma was featured on the soundtrack of Leaves of Grass starring Edward Norton . In the same year, the band released the album Happiness and All the Other Things , which they officially dedicated to Willie Nelson's long-time manager , Randall "Poodie" Locke, who had recently passed away .
End of the Band (2010)
The band announced their breakup in September 2010. They had their last appearance together on October 24th, 2009. Some time before there had been rumors of internal disputes after the band had previously announced a break. In March 2012, Cody Canada admitted that tensions between the band members, as well as the personal lives of the musicians, were decisive for the breakup. While Jeremy Plato and Cody Canada formed the band The Departed with other country musicians after their time at Cross Canadian Ragweed , the other two band members have since finally gone their separate ways. The Departed released its first album in June 2011. Canada was last on tour with Stoney LaRue in December 2011 . To date, Cross Canadian Ragweed has sold over a million records.
