features

butterfly

The wingspan of the moth is 22 to 26 millimeters. The forewings have a light brownish base color. Several brown transverse lines almost parallel to the hem run on them. A narrow dark band can often be seen in the midfield. A black graduation line opens into the apex . A line made up of small black dots runs directly on the hem. The hind wings are a little lighter colored and provided with several weakly developed dark transverse lines. All wings show a small black discal spot.

Egg, caterpillar, pupa

The egg is yellowish, flat and finely dotted.

Adult caterpillars are light green or brownish in color and have indistinct, narrow back and side back lines. The broad side lines are light red to whitish.

The pupa is brown in color, shows greenish wing sheaths and has a very pointed cremaster .

Similar species

The marsh weed leaf tensioner is similar to the multi-line leaf tensioner ( Costaconvexa polygrammata ), but the black line dividing the apex is replaced by a whitish smear. In addition, the black line running along the hem is continuous or made up of lines.

Geographical distribution and occurrence

The species is sparsely distributed from the Arctic Circle through Europe to Siberia . It is also found in Turkey and Kazakhstan . The marsh weed leaf tensioner prefers to colonize damp meadows, swamp forests as well as riparian and bog areas.

Way of life

The nocturnal moths fly in two generations from May to early July and from late July to September. You visit artificial light sources . The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various types of bedstraw ( Galium ), especially bog bedstraw ( Galium palustre ) and bitter clover ( Menyanthes trifoliata ). The species overwinters as a caterpillar.

Danger

The marsh weed leaf tensioner occurs in different numbers in the German federal states, is considered endangered in some areas, but is listed as not endangered on the red list . However, due to the draining of previous habitats, a decline of the species cannot be ruled out in the future.
