Sunkist drinking pack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sunkist drink package was a soft drink that was produced and bottled by the Reinbeck company Rickertsen. The drink was not carbonated and was sold in tetrahedral packaging. It was launched on the German market in the 1960s as one of the first drinking packs.

history

prehistory

As early as 1908, the marketing agency Lord & Thomas had developed the name Sunkist (sun-kissed, kissed by the sun) as a brand name for oranges for The California Fruit Growers Exchange , founded in Claremont in 1893 . On May 18, 1951, the company Tetra Pak brought a new, plastic-coated beverage carton for milk in the form of a tetrahedron onto the market.

Sunkist triangle

In 1964, Rickertsen Produktions-Gesellschaft mbH acquired a license to market a non-carbonated orange soft drink made from concentrate from California Fruit Growers under the name Sunkist . On May 26, 1964, Rickertsen in Reinbek began filling the tetrahedral 0.19 l Tetra-Pak packs with a drinking straw attached. These drinking packs were not marketed through beverage markets, but through food retailers , and until the 1970s Sunkist became one of the best-known beverages in Germany and a co-founder of a new type of “to-go” beverage.

Relaunch

On April 18, 1996, today's Altmühltaler Mineralbrunnen GmbH & Co. KG took over the distribution of Sunkist fruit drinks and lemonades from Rickertsen Getränke Vertrieb GmbH & Co. KG, Hamburg. Production continued at Rickertsen.

In 2017 there was another relaunch. CTP Germany GmbH from Langenfeld is responsible for development and sales .
