The Sunways AG was a German manufacturer of solar cells , inverters and solar modules . The company was based in Konstanz . Another plant was located in Arnstadt . There were sales offices in Barcelona and Bologna .

history

The company was founded in 1993 as Sunways GmbH by Roland Burkhardt. In 1999 the production of solar cells began. Sunways was a stock corporation since 1999. In 2002 MHH Solartechnik GmbH (Tübingen) was completely taken over. Since January 2003, Sunways shares have been freely traded in the Prime Standard on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

In 2005 sales amounted to 152.3 million euros, with around 80 percent of sales being achieved with the 20 largest customers. In 2005, 240 people were employed.

At the end of 2006 the board consisted of Roland Burkhardt (chairman), Ralph Kienzler and Michael Wilhelm.

In 2010, the subsidiary MHH Solartechnik GmbH , based in Tübingen, was sold to Baywa Green Energy GmbH , a subsidiary of BayWa .

On December 31, 2011, the Chinese provider LDK Solar submitted a takeover offer. As of January 2013, LDK held around 71% of the shares in Sunways.

On May 7, 2013, the preliminary insolvency proceedings against Sunways were opened at the Konstanz local court . The applicant was the Baden-Württembergische Bank (BW-Bank) as the creditor of Sunways; several banks had previously canceled loans amounting to millions. The lawyer Thorsten Schleich was appointed as the preliminary insolvency administrator.

On August 14, 2013, the Konstanz District Court rescinded the preliminary insolvency proceedings for the assets of Sunways AG and its subsidiary Sunways Production GmbH after a settlement agreement with the most important creditors and the majority shareholder had come into effect.

On March 21, 2014, the company again filed for insolvency at the Konstanz local court. On April 30, 2014, Sunways announced that the two business areas of inverters and building-integrated photovoltaics will be sold to a subsidiary of the Chinese solar group Shunfeng. All Konstanz employees who were not employed in these two areas were dismissed. This affected around 50 percent of the employees or around 130 people. The Arnstadt location with 35 remaining employees was sold in June 2014 to the newly founded Bluecell GmbH owned by the Swiss Marc Gion Berthoud.
