The Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum (abbreviated to SEG ) is a collection of newly published ancient Greek inscriptions that appears in annual volumes .
It was founded in 1923 by Jacobus Johannes Ewoud Hondius and published in collaboration with numerous other epigraphers . In 1950, after the death of Hondius Arthur Geoffrey Woodhead took over the editorial office. 25 volumes had appeared by 1971.
After an interruption, the publication was resumed in 1979. The editors were now Henri Willy Pleket and Ronald S. Stroud . Currently (as of 2018) the SEG is published by Angelos Chaniotis , Thomas Corsten , Nikolaos Papazarkadas and Eftychia Stavrianopoulou .
The SEG is arranged geographically and prints the inscriptions published in magazines or anthologies (up to the 8th century AD) together with a brief commentary. In addition, other publications on Greek epigraphy are briefly presented. The SEG thus simultaneously fulfills the function of an annual bibliography of Greek epigraphy and offers an indispensable addition to the large geographical or thematic inscription corpora (texts published there are usually not included). Each volume is indexed; in addition, there are separate register volumes at larger intervals.
The annual volumes of the SEG appear with a delay of several years. The Bulletin épigraphique in the Revue des études grecques offers more up-to- date information, but no complete texts of the inscriptions .
