Surulere

Surulere is one of the 20 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state of Lagos .

Surulere is located about 8 km from Lagos Island on the mainland of Lagos and has an area of 23 km². In the last census in 2006 502,865 inhabitants were counted, so Surulere had a population density of 21,864 inhabitants per km². Surulere borders Mushin to the north , Lagos Mainland to the east, Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Apapa to the south, and Amuwo Odofin and Oshodi-Isolo to the west .

The LGA was separated from Lagos Mainland on August 27, 1991. It is the center of Lagos' film industry ( Nollywood ) and the city's nightlife district. In Surulere is also for the African Games in 1973 built Surulere Stadium .
