Susanne Alt (born April 15, 1978 in Würzburg ) is a German saxophonist and composer .

Life

Susanne Alt was born in 1978 in Würzburg as the child of two musicians and music teachers. In 1996 she won the Siemens Jazz Prize and in the same year she moved to the Netherlands to study jazz saxophone at the Conservatorium van Hilversum (later Conservatorium van Amsterdam ). After graduating, she continued her studies at the UdK Berlin and has been working as a freelance artist in Amsterdam since 2003. Since 1998 she has played with: Rosa King, Soulcatchers, BuJazzO and was a member of the Amsterdam Jazz Orchestra. She also toured with Fred Wesley & the new JB's and works with house DJs and producers worldwide such as: Hardsoul Productions, Piglife, Roog, Ronald Molendijk, Marc van Dale and Erick E as well as jazz DJs such as DJ Maestro, Wicked Jazz Sounds and Graham B.

Susanne Alt Quartet

The Susanne Alt Quartet (2003–2012) consisted of:

  • Susanne Alt (D): alto and soprano saxophone,
  • Thijs Cuppen (NL): Piano,
  • Sven Schuster (D): double bass,
  • Philippe Lemm (NL): drums

On October 11th, 2004 they presented their debut album “Nocturne” in Amsterdam.

The quartet has won several prizes and has been a finalist in competitions such as the Leipzig Young Jazz Festival or the Dutch Jazz Competition and has received jazz prizes in Leiden and Breda .
