Susanne Ghez

Susanne Ghez (born before 1958) is an American curator and museum director.

life and work

Susanne Ghez studied art history with H. Chipp and HW Janson at the University of California, Berkeley and with Meyer Schapiro at Columbia University , New York. She graduated from the New York School of Interior Design, New York and the Bryant College of Business Administration in Smithfield, Rhode Island .

From 1958 to 1960 she worked as an assistant at Texas Instruments in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and from 1960 to 1962 she helped set up the European headquarters of Texas Instruments in Geneva.

Ghez got the position as deputy director of the Renaissance Society in 1973 and was then director and chief curator of the Renaissance Society from 1974 until her retirement in 2013. There she has organized more than 160 exhibitions for contemporary artists, including Louise Bourgeois , Felix Gonzalez-Torres , Eva Hesse , Martin Kippenberger , Robert Smithson , Judy Ledgerwood , Ed Paschke , Jeff Wall , Peter Fischli and David Weiss , Mike Kelley and Kara Walker .

In the documenta 11 had Ghez as co-curator with. Susanne Ghez has received numerous awards for her work as a curator, including the William Benton Medal from the University of Chicago in 2013 and the “Golden Lion” (special prize) from the Venice Biennale in 2015 .
