Suze Orman (born June 5, 1951 in South Side , Chicago ) is an American author , financial advisor , motivational speaker and television presenter .

Life

Her parents Ann and Morry Orman were Russian immigrants. After finishing school in Chicago, Orman studied social sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and received her Bachelor's degree in 1976 . After graduation, Orman moved to Berkeley , California . In 1980 she opened her own restaurant, which she gave up due to financial problems. She then got a job at Merrill Lynch in financial advisory. In 1983 Orman moved to the financial advisory firm Prudential Bache Securities , where she was employed until 1987. In 1987, Orman went freelance financial advisory and founded Suze Orman Financial Group in Emeryville , California. Orman ran this company until 1997.

In addition to her work in financial advice, Orman began writing her first books as an author. Her first book, You've Earned It, Don't Lose It: Mistakes You Can't Afford to Make When You Retire , was published in 1997 and The Courage to Be Rich was published in 1998 . Orman wrote six New York Times Best Sellers . Through her books, Orman became increasingly known on US television in the 2000s. She received her own television show The Suze Orman Show on CNBC television . Orman is the host of Suze Orman's Financial Freedom on TV channel QVC .

Orman lives openly gay with Kathy Travis in the United States.
