Svante Sture
Svante Sture (also: Svante Nilsson , * around 1460, † January 2, 1512 ) was the imperial administrator of Sweden .
Svante Sture was a son of Niels Bosson Sture and Sigrid Bonde , a cousin of King Charles VIII.
Svante Sture, who had been a member of the Swedish Diet since 1481, distinguished himself in the Russo-Swedish War (1495-1497) under Sten Sture the Elder in the conquest of Ivangorod fortress .
Together with Sten Sture, he ran the revolt of the Swedish nobility against the Danish King John I in the years 1500/1501 . After Sten Sture's death he was elected imperial administrator and held this office from 1504 to 1512.
His reign was marked by ongoing disputes with Denmark and its claims to the Swedish throne, after John I had been awarded the Swedish crown in the judgment of Kalmar in 1505. After Emperor Maximilian I had also confirmed this judgment, he had to consent to a tribute payment in the Peace of Copenhagen in 1509.
Since Denmark had in the meantime fallen out with the Hanseatic League , he used this to form an alliance with Lübeck . During the Danish-Luebian War in 1510 the fortresses Kalmar and Borgholm came back into Swedish hands.
