The Svartisunnel is a single-tube road tunnel between Kilvik and Fykanvatnet in the municipality of Meløy in the Norwegian province of Nordland .
The tunnel in the course of Fylkesvei 17 is 7,624 m long and passes under an arm of the Svartisen glacier . The tunnel was driven using a tunnel boring machine . Because of the small cross-section, the roadway is very narrow and therefore has no central marking. This makes the tunnel difficult to drive for heavy traffic.
As with many Norwegian road tunnels, there are difficulties with fogged vehicle windows ( dew point ) in certain weather conditions
