Sven-Olof Hammarlund

Sven-Olof "Lollo" Hammarlund (born February 19, 1932 , † October 15, 1995 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish table tennis player and official. He was president of the world association ITTF .

Hammarlund played in the first Swedish league in the 1950s and took part in the 1955 World Cup in Utrecht. From 1958 to 1967 he was nonplaying captain of the national team.

After the end of his active career, he was chairman of the Swedish national team committee from 1958 until the end of his life. He was also vice-president of the Swedish table tennis association Svenska Bordtennisförbundet.

From 1970 he worked on the board of the European table tennis association ETTU . In 1982 he was appointed Vice President. He held this office until 1988.

Hammarlund also took on tasks in the world association ITTF. In 1979 he became a member of the Advisory Board and in 1987 Deputy President. When the incumbent ITTF President Ichirō Ogimura was no longer able to perform his business due to illness, Sven-Olof Hammarlund took over his duties as acting president . In May 1995 he was elected President at the ITTF Congress in Tianjin, China. A few months later he died after a brief serious illness. His successor was the Chinese Xu Yinsheng .

The ETTU appointed Hammarlund Honorary President in 1996.

Private

Hammarlund was married and had two daughters.
