Sven Christer Swahn

Sven Christer Swahn (born August 3, 1933 in Karlskrona ; † January 15, 2005 ) was a Swedish writer , translator , literary critic and literary scholar .

Life

After taking his Abitur in Landskrona , Swahn went to Lund to study in 1952 . In addition to studying, he began to write professionally. From 1960 to 1966 he was a Swedish lecturer at the University of Copenhagen and in 1971 he worked as a literary scholar and doctor of philosophy at Lund University . Swahn married fellow student Sigbrit, honorary professor of French language and literature. He was the brother of the folklorist and ethnologist Jan-Öjvind Swahn and the father of the writer Jan Henrik Swahn .

Swahn was literarily productive in many ways. He worked as a poet , novelist , novelist , author of young books and playwright . In 1956 he published the first collection of poems in Eftermiddagens Nycklar . The following year the collection of poems Genom många portar and the first youth novel Indianresan (India trip) followed. In 1958 the first collection of novels was published, 13 historier om spöken och annat (13 haunted stories and others). In 1960 the first adult novel Bäste bror (Best Brother) was published. He also wrote theater and radio plays. He also made a name for himself as a literary critic for the newspaper Sydsvenskan and a translator of poetry and fiction for children and adults. Among other things, he translated Shakespeare and Keats ' sonnets and poems by Emily Dickinson . His works include psychological-realistic novels, but also science fiction books. Over the years of his work, he created a total of fourteen adult novels, sixteen youth novels, six collections of novels, two children's books, twelve collections of poetry and a large number of other books. There are also around 200 book translations.
