Jan Henrik Swahn

Jan Henrik Swahn (* 1959 in Malmö ) is a Swedish writer and translator .

Life

After his birth Swahn grew up in Copenhagen as the son of the writer Sven Christer Swahn and moved back to Sweden at the age of eleven. He has lived in Stockholm since 1980 and initially worked for ten years as a bridge guard, proofreader and translator. From 1997 to 1999 he was an editor for Bonnier's literary magazine. Swahn translates Arabic, Danish, German, English, French, Greek, Italian, Polish and Slovenian literature.

He made his literary debut in 1986 with the novel Jag kan stoppa ett hav , to which he was inspired during a stay in France from 1982 to 1983. In many psychological works that are characterized by humor and respect for the protagonists, his fictional characters often portray bizarre outsiders who lead a life on the edge of society. His prose is described as very stylish and precise.
