Sven Findeisen
Sven Findeisen (born April 25, 1930 in Tallinn , Estonia ) is a German Protestant theologian with an evangelical character, former pastor of the North Elbian Church and a leading member of the confessional movement “No other gospel” . Findeisen is an expert on Marc Chagall .
Live and act
According to his own statements, at the age of 14, Findeisen had great enthusiasm for the war as a Hitler Youth . Through the knowledge gained after the war about the time of National Socialism , enthusiasm gave way to deep nihilism . Findisen wanted to quit the church, but by working with Albert Schweitzer he found access to Jesus Christ at the age of 16. From 1948 to 1950 he was in the Carl Hunnius boarding school in Wyk auf Föhr, where he passed the Abitur. He began reading the Bible and found a personal Christian faith. In the 1960s he began studying theology. The preoccupation with historical-critical biblical criticism initially led to a loss of belief in his own experience. But in the end he managed to hold belief and thought together.
In 1959 he was pastor of the North Elbian Church and entrusted with a parish work in Neumünster .
From 1971 to 1978 Findeisen worked at the GRZ Krelingen . In November 1972, together with Heinrich Kemner , the founder of the spiritual armament center in Krelingen , he initiated the study work of the armament center. This was a preparatory course that was intended to counteract the uncertainty of some students due to the strongly historical-critical interpretation of the Bible at universities. In the course of this work, "theocircles", conferences, seminars and free time were created, which finally led to the establishment of the Bodelschwingh-Studienstiftung in 1981 (which was only known some time later) , which looks after a study center in Marburg. In 1997 he retired, where he volunteered for student education until 2014, giving lectures and preaching. As a specialist for the painter Marc Chagall , he organized study trips to his places of work, especially in France. He also accompanied study trips to Israel and Russia.
He was on the main board of the German Evangelical Alliance , on the executive committee of the confessional movement “No Other Gospel” and on the board of the conference of Confessing Communities in the Evangelical Churches in Germany . From 1975 to 1987 he was an appointed member of the General Synod of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (VELKD).
Findeisen had been married to his wife Ruth, who died in 1999, since 1959. The couple had four children. The three sons are theologians.
