Sven Gatter

Sven Gatter (born December 12, 1978 in Halle (Saale) ) is a contemporary German photographer .

life and work

Gatter grew up in Bitterfeld . From 1999 to 2006 he completed a degree in applied social sciences at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt , which he completed with a thesis on the subject of "Photographic images as sources of empirical social research". From 2004 to 2005 he attended the evening academy of the Academy of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig and from 2010 to 2011 the Ostkreuz School for Photography in Berlin . Since then he has been investigating the post-communist transformation processes in East Germany in his artistic and photographic work . For this purpose, he combines his own images and texts with found archive material and thus condenses them into subjective narratives.

He lives in Potsdam and Berlin .

honors and awards

Gatter was awarded the Lotto Brandenburg Art Prize in the photography category in 2016 and in 2018 received a three-month residency grant for the Künstlerhaus Schloss Wiepersdorf from the Brandenburg Ministry of Science, Research and Culture .
