from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sven Kureti (born November 9, 1968 in Mannheim-Neckarau ) is a German chemist and university professor . His work deals with fundamental and applied aspects in the areas of exhaust gas cleaning, CO 2 reduction and the production of synthetic and biogenic fuels.

Life

Kureti studied chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe from 1988 to 1996 . He then did his doctorate in Werner Weisweiler's group at the Institute for Chemical Technology there. From 2000 to 2001 he did a postdoc at the same institute. From 2001 to 2010 he worked as group leader for exhaust gas catalysis at the Institute for Technical Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry at the University of Karlsruhe. Research stays led him to the ETH Zurich in the Institute for Chemical and Bioengineering. The habilitation took place in 2008 at the University of Karlsruhe with the mentor Henning Bockhorn . From 2008 to 2009. Kureti took a teaching position for Chemical Reaction Engineering at the University of Leipzig true. From 2009 to 2010 he was a private lecturer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology at the Institute for Technical Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry. Since 2010 he has been professor for reaction technology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg at the Institute for Energy Process Engineering and Chemical Engineering. Since 2020 he has headed the Chemical Processes and Catalysis group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems in Halle in the Freiberg branch .

Work areas

Kureti works on selected problems in reaction technology in his working group.

Areas of work are:

  • Rational catalyst design,
  • Exhaust catalysis,
  • iron-based catalysis,
  • Refinery processes and synthesis gas chemistry and
  • synthetic and biogenic fuels.

The following research content is processed in the working group:

  • Development of catalysts based on structure-activity correlations,
  • Elucidation of reaction mechanisms,
  • Development of global and elementary kinetic models,
  • Modeling of reactors and process simulation,
  • Development of process and synthesis routes and
  • Characterization and structure elucidation of raw materials and reaction products.

Prizes and awards

In 2005, Kureti received the DECHEMA university professor's award for technical chemistry.
