Sven Ljungberg

Sven Birger Ljungberg (born December 15, 1913 in Ljungby , † July 28, 2010 in Italy ) was a Swedish artist , painter and graphic artist .

Ljungberg was director from 1972 to 1978 and from 1978 to 1981 rector of the Kungliga Konsthögskolan Stockholm in Stockholm .

He mainly painted pictures of his hometown Ljungby, he also illustrated many books and made mosaics.

He became extremely well known for his portraits of the Nobel Prize winners in physics , chemistry and economics , which were created between 1977 and 1989.

Ljungberg was married to the artist Ann Margret Dahlquist-Ljungberg , their son Pontus Ljungberg became an architect and together with Dahlquist-Ljungberg designed a museum in honor of his father, which opened in 2002 after twelve years of construction.
