Sven Helge Schüller (born January 17, 1996 in Wuppertal ) is a German baseball player . The pitcher has been under contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers since July 2, 2013 .

Life

Sven Schüller was born on January 17th, 1996 in Wuppertal . Schüller made his first contact with the sport of baseball in 2003 on a trip to the United States with his family. He was immediately enthusiastic about the sport and two years later began to play baseball with the Wuppertal Stingrays . Later he also played for the Solingen Alligators .

Career

Buchbinder Legionnaires Regensburg (2012-2013)

In 2012 and 2013, Schüller attended the Buchbinder Legionnaires' baseball academy in Regensburg , where he played several times for the second team in the 2013 season. On June 26, 2013 he made his debut in the German national baseball team at a game in the Prague Baseball League. He also played for the national junior team at the U18 European Championship in Prague in 2013.

Rookie Leagues (2014-2016)

In the 2014 season, Schüller began his minor league career with the AZL Dodgers in the Arizona League in Phoenix, Arizona . In the first year he was used in six games and achieved an earned run average of 3.38. In the following season he was involved in a total of 13 games and allowed 24 runs in 31.2 innings. In 2016, Schüller also played for the Ogden Raptors in the Pioneer League, another rookie league. There he had an ERA of 4.28 in 15 missions.

Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Great Lakes Loones and Sydney Blue Sox (2016–2018)

After the 2016 summer season, Schüller traveled to Australia and played for the Sydney Blue Sox in the Australian Baseball League , where he was used in 14 games. He was then promoted to the Midwest League, a single A-League, to the Great Lakes Loones in the 2017 season. There he had 23 appearances as a pitcher before returning to the Australian Baseball League in November 2017.

Oklahoma City Dodgers (2018-present)

On June 8, 2018, Schüller made his debut with the Oklahoma City Dodgers in the Triple-A California League. He became the first pitcher born in Germany since Edwin Jackson , who made the leap into the Triple-A.
