Swan River ( English for "swan river") is a river in the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan and Manitoba .
It has its origin in the Porcupine Hills in eastern Saskatchewan. It first flows south, then makes a wide curve to the east, passes the small town of the same name and flows into Swan Lake . Its length is around 180 km and its catchment area is around 4230 km². The mean discharge at the Minitonas gauge is 6.6 m³ / s.
Its name is derived from the trumpeter swans found in the region .
