Sweetness and Lightning ( Japanese 甘 々 と 稲 妻 , Amaama to Inazuma , Eng . “ Sweetness and Lightning ”) is a manga series by Gido Amagakure that has been published in Japan since 2013. In 2016, it was adapted as an anime television series. The series is about a single father who is learning to cook with his daughter. It can be assigned to the genres of his own and gourmet .

The young teacher Kōhei Inuzuka ( 犬 塚 公平 ) has lived alone with his daughter Tsumugi ( つ む ぎ ) since his wife died of an illness. Tsumugi still wants her mother to come back and make them good food again. Her father regrets that he cannot cook so well and that he can only offer ready-made meals for his daughter. When the two of them meet an Inuzuka's student at Hanami in the park, she invites them both to her mother's small restaurant. Arrived there in the evening, the shop is empty and only the schoolgirl Kotori Iida ( 飯 田 小鳥 ) there to entertain you, because her mother is on the way. She repeatedly represents her mother, who is mostly on the road as a consultant or cook, because she wants to keep the restaurant. Her father separated from his mother a long time ago.

But Kotori cannot cook well either - mainly because she is afraid of knives. Together with Tsumugi, who has a lot of fun in the small restaurant, she convinces Inuzuka that both of them come over more often to cook together. Every time they try to cook a new dish and - Inuzuka for his daughter and Kotori for the restaurant - to get better at cooking.

The series has been published in Good! Magazine since February 1, 2013 (issue 3/2013) . Afternoon from Kodansha . The publisher also brings out the chapters in eleven anthologies ( Tankōbon ) so far . The sixth volume sold over 110,000 times in the first two weeks, the seventh volume was bought over 130,000 times in the first three weeks.

Kodansha Comics, the American subsidiary of the publisher, brought out the series in English in North America. The manga is also accessible digitally on the Crunchyroll platform .

Anime adaptation

In TMS / 3xCube a 2016 originated Anime -Adaption the series in which Tarō Iwasaki directed by. The main author was Mitsutaka Hirota , who also wrote the scripts together with Keiichirō Ōchi . The character design was created by Hiroki Harada and the artistic direction was Masanori Yamaguchi .

The 12 episodes were broadcast from July 5 to September 20, 2016 after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ) on Tokyo MX , as well as on Yomiuri TV , BS11 , AT-X and J: COM TV with an offset of up to four days . International versions, including German and English subtitled versions, are published on the Crunchyroll platform under the title sweetness & lightning .
