Swift Engineering is an American chassis manufacturer in the monoposto racing car construction and manufacturer of mini jets.

The enterprise

Swift Engineering was founded in 1983 by the four Americans David Bruns, Alex Cross, R. Smith and Paul White, California St. Clemente with the aim of unit chassis for various single-seater to develop -Rennserien. The company began with the production of Formula Ford chassis that were used in the US Formula Ford 1600 Championship. This was followed by vehicles for the Formula Ford 2000 Championship, Formula Atlantic and the CART series . Most recently, Swift - the company has produced more than 500 racing vehicles to date - produced the standard chassis for the Atlantic series and currently for Formula Nippon .

successes

Due to the standard chassis, Swift's successes in the various racing series are naturally numerous. It was different in the CART series, where Swift built a first chassis for the Japanese Hiro Matsushita in 1991 with a lot of sponsorship from Panasonic . From 1997 until the end of the 2000 season, Swift exclusively supplied Newman / Haas Racing with vehicles. The cars were driven by Michael Andretti and Christian Fittipaldi . Swift CART racing cars contested a total of 182 races, five of which were won. The last driver with a Swift car in this racing series was the Brazilian Tarso Marques .

Aircraft construction

In 2007 Swift became involved in aircraft construction. The company built the Minijet Eclipse 400 on a commission from Eclipse Aviation . After the bankruptcy of Eclipse Aviation in 2008, the project was not pursued any further.
