Eclipse Aviation

The Eclipse Aviation Corporation was an American aircraft manufacturer based in Albuquerque .

history

The company was founded in 1998 by the former Microsoft manager Vern Raburn, who held the position of CEO until July 2008 . The number of employees in 2007 was around 1,300.

On November 25, 2008, just four days after the European type approval for the Eclipse 500, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection . As the reason for the financial problems, the management cited the incorrectly estimated production costs, which had already led to a significant increase in sales prices in the summer of 2007. The proceedings were opened on January 20, 2009. On March 5, 2009, however, the liquidation of Eclipse Aviation under Chapter 7 of US bankruptcy law began. An auction of the equipment was scheduled for August 2009. In the meantime it became known that the former sales partner ETIRC wanted to take over Eclipse Aviation through the specially founded company EclipseJet and continue the production and maintenance of the Eclipse 500. However, it was not able to raise the necessary funds for the takeover. In the spring of 2009, ETIRC itself went bankrupt. An auction of Eclipse Aviation's equipment and facilities was scheduled for August 2009.

One consequence of the bankruptcy and liquidation was that the European Aviation Safety Agency suspended its certification for the Eclipse 500 on June 12, 2009 due to unpaid fees.

Eclipse Aerospace

The company was acquired by Mike Press and Mason Holland and renamed Eclipse Aerospace on August 20, 2009 .

Models

Eclipse Aviation delivered the twin-engine Very Light Jet (VLJ) Eclipse 500 from 2006 - around 270 units had left the factory in Albuquerque by the forced end of production. Other planned production locations were New York and Gainesville , Florida . In 2007, an airworthy prototype of a single-engine light aircraft, initially known as the Eclipse Concept Jet , was presented. From May 2008 the type was offered for sale as the Eclipse 400 . The delivery should take place from the end of 2011.
