content

The series was designed as a historical and relational drama about the effects of sexual and social liberation in the 1970s on American suburban households and includes storylines involving open marriages and swinger parties. The series begins in the summer of 1976 with the Miller family moving to an affluent neighborhood in the North Shore suburb of Chicago. Tom and Trina Decker are the new neighbors. The Millers quickly learn that their neighbors, a pilot and a stewardess, have an open marriage. The move puts a strain on the Miller's friendship with Roger and Janet Thompson, their more conservative friends from the old neighborhood. They try to take care of them, but the Thompsons are appalled to learn of the Deckers' open marriage. Although the plot is mostly focused on the three couples, it also focuses on their children, e.g. B. Laurie, the daughter of the Millers, has a keen interest in her summer school philosophy teacher.
