Remarks
The population of Alderney , Sark and Herm has been subtracted from the population of the Bailiwick of Guernsey . These three islands are part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, but are independent islands.
There are some arguments in favor of including islands like Saint Petersburg , Vasilyevsky and Kamenny in the list, but it is very difficult to find statistics that are not written in Russian.
It is difficult to find statistical material on the Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis , the two Seine islands in Paris. In addition, it is difficult to decide whether they should be included in this list at all.
The population of small Icelandic islands like Heimaey has been subtracted from the population of the Republic of Iceland.
Madeira is a Portuguese island, but it is not one of the European islands and was therefore not included in the list, nor was the Canary Islands , which belong to Spain but are not European islands either.
In fact, Venice and Chioggia are two separate cities, but like Paris and Saint Petersburg, it is very difficult to get population figures for each city.
The status of Södertörn and Södermalm as islands has already been discussed in other Wikipedia articles, the publication contains a different definition of 'island' which clarifies the issue for official Swedish statistics.
Population figures (as of December 31, 2013) of Swedish islands (excluding Södermalm and Kungsholmen) were taken.
The population of the island of Södermalm does not include the population of the small, nearby islands of Reimersholme and Långholmen , nor the population of Hammarby Sjöstad .
Population figures (as of December 31, 2013) of the Swedish islands of Södermalm and Kungsholmen were calculated from the information provided by.
