Rachelle Marie Lefèvre [Eng. ləˈfɛv , French ləˈfɛvʁ (ə) ] (born February 1, 1979 in Montreal ) is a Canadian actress . She is best known as the vampire Victoria Sutherland in the film Twilight - Bite at Dawn and the sequel New Moon - Bite at noon based on the novels by Stephenie Meyer .

youth

Lefèvre was born and raised in Montreal , Canada . Her father is an English teacher, her mother a psychologist . Her paternal family comes from France and Ireland , which is why Lefèvre and her three sisters grew up speaking both English and French. She attended Centennial Academy , a private high school, and studied creative arts at Dawson College . She also studied theater for two semesters at Walnut Hill School in Massachusetts and later graduated from McGill University with a degree in education and literature .

Career

Career start

While studying, Lefèvre worked as a waitress at a sushi bar in Montreal and told a client that she would like to become an actress. Another guest who was friends with a casting director happened to overhear the conversation and got her her first role - as Stacey Hanson in the Canadian television series Big Wolf on Campus (1999). While filming, she finished her studies at McGill University . Also in 1999 she starred in the TV movie The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as Katrina Van Tassle.

Her first major film roles were in the motion picture Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) with Drew Barrymore , directed by George Clooney and in the television films Picking Up and Dropping Off (2003) and See Jane Date (2003). In 2003 she played a role in the romantic comedy Hatley High and starred as Etta Place in the TV movie The Legend of Butch and Sundance . In the same year she had a guest role in the hit series Charmed as Olivia Callaway in the episode Love's a Witch . She moved to California in 2004 and that year starred in the films Noel , directed by Chazz Palminteri, and starring alongside Penélope Cruz and Charlize Theron in Head in the Clouds .

In 2005 she was in the Fox serials Life on a Stick and The Pool Guys seen and played in 2006 in eleven episodes of the short-lived series What About Brian , the Heather . Lefèvre was cast as Annie Cartwright in the series Life on Mars in 2008 . After filming the pilot, she was replaced by Gretchen Mol .

breakthrough

In 2008 Lefèvre achieved international fame with the role of the vampire Victoria Sutherland in Twilight , the film adaptation of the first novel from the Bis (s) series by Stephenie Meyer . After auditioning for the role, she wrote a three-page letter to director Catherine Hardwicke explaining why she was the right person for the role. In preparation for her role, she watched video lion fights to distinguish Victoria's movements from human movements. She also took trapeze lessons. The vampire romance was an international box office success and led to the filming of the second book Bis (s) zum lunchtime . Lefèvre repeated the role of Victoria in New Moon , this time directed by Chris Weitz . For the film, she won a 2010 Teen Choice Award in the Best Villain category. In the third film adaptation Eclipse - Biss zum Abendrot her role was newly cast with Bryce Dallas Howard . The production studio Summit Entertainment justified this decision with overlapping shooting schedules for Eclipse and Barney's Version , another film project from Lefèvre. Lefèvre described this decision as “surprising” and “very disappointing”. Fans of the Twilight series reacted to the reshuffle with online - petitions and video messages and sat in vain for their return one. The reshuffle was also largely received negatively by critics .

Parallel to the Twilight films, Lefèvre appeared in a guest role in the series Eli Stone (2008) and had a recurring role in Boston Legal (2008). In 2009 she played a role in the miniseries The Summit .

Career after Twilight

In 2010, she stood in front of the camera for the feature film Casino Jack alongside Kevin Spacey . The film tells the true story of the American political lobbyist Jack Abramoff (Spacey). She plays the role of press officer Emily Miller . It was also shown in Barney's version , the film adaptation of the award-winning bestseller of the same name by Mordecai Richler , which appeared in Germany under the title Wie Barney es sucht es . Lefèvre plays Clara , a manic depressive poet who becomes Barney's ( Paul Giamatti ) first wife. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and received positive reviews and a Golden Globe . In the same year she directed the thriller The Caller on the side of Stephen Moyer . In it, she replaces Brittany Murphy , who was originally cast for the lead role. Lefèvre was also seen in two episodes of the series The Deep End , in which she was originally supposed to take on a recurring role. The series of lawyers was discontinued after a few episodes.

In 2010 Lefèvre was hired for a leading role in the doctor series Off the Map , created and produced by Shonda Rhimes , creator of Grey's Anatomy . In it she plays the doctor Dr. Ryan Clark , who practices in the Amazon . The series was broadcast on American television from January to April 2011.

In 2011, Lefèvre again took on the role of a doctor in the drama series A Gifted Man . The series is about the career-oriented neurosurgeon Michael Holt ( Patrick Wilson ) to whom his late wife appears, who speaks to his conscience. The pilot episode aired on September 23, 2011 on the American broadcaster CBS . The series was discontinued after 16 episodes.

In 2012, Lefèvre starred in the thriller White House Down alongside Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx and directed the action film Homefront with James Franco and Winona Ryder . From 2013 to 2015 Lefèvre played a leading role in the series Under the Dome . It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King , which was published in Germany under the title Die Arena .

Personal

Lefèvre lives in Los Angeles , California . From June 2009 she was in a relationship with the actor Jamie Thomas King ( The Tudors ). In 2009 she ran a charity auction for which she auctioned merchandising items signed by her Twilight colleagues on eBay . She donated the proceeds for homeless children. She also promotes the animal welfare organization Best Friends Animal .

Lefèvre has not yet had a permanent German dubbing voice. It was dubbed in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) and Under the Dome (2013) by Svantje Wascher . Sonja Spuhl was her German voice in The River King (2005), CSI: NY (2007) and Eli Stone (2008). She was spoken by Maria Koschny in Boston Legal (2008) and White House Down (2013) . Melanie Hinze was her voice actress in Bones (2005) and The Closer (2007). It was spoken by Manja Doering in What About Brian (2006). Marion von Stengel was her German voice in Twilight - Biss zum Morgengrauen (2008) and New Moon - Biss zum Mittagshrunde (2009).
