Sy Barry

Seymour "Sy" Barry (born March 12, 1928 in New York City , New York ) is an American comic artist .

life and work

Barry, younger brother of the comic artist Dan Barry , attended the Art Students League of New York after graduating from the New York School of Art and at the same time worked as an assistant for his brother. He then worked freelance for several publishers, for which he mainly worked as an Inker . After the death of Wilson McCoy in 1961, Barry was entrusted by the King Features Syndicate to continue his comic book Phantom , which he did until his retirement in 1995.

Andreas C. Knigge justifies the popularity of Phantom with Barry's "straightforward leadership and his dynamic black and white technique".
