Sycamore (processor)

Sycamore is the name of a processor based on superconducting circuits developed by researchers at Google , which is the heart of a quantum computer with 53 qubits .

The Sycamore was developed by a research group led by the physicist John M. Martinis . In the end of 2019 in Nature published paper, the group claimed first quantum superiority (ger .: quantum supremacy ) experimentally demonstrated. Random numbers were generated according to a special probability distribution that was chosen so that the corresponding task with Summit , currently the fastest supercomputer in the world, would take 10,000 years, while the Sycamore processor only took 200 seconds.

Researchers at the company IBM introduced the estimation of required by the Summit supercomputer computation time in question. Using a memory-intensive algorithm and with the help of secondary storage , in their opinion 2.5 days should be sufficient for the calculation.
