Sydney Bettex (born February 5, 1922 in Chertsey , United Kingdom ) is a now inactive British film architect in French film.

Life

Bettex came to France at a very young age and stayed there during the German occupation from 1940 to 1944. In 1943 he made his film debut and learned the practical handicraft as an assistant to the film architect Lucien Carré . He has been an assistant production designer since 1946, and in August 1956 he became chief architect at Carré's side (for “Junge Rosen im Wind”).

Since the beginning of his career, Bettex has mostly designed decorations for productions that are hardly significant in terms of film history. From the beginning of the 1960s, his film building designs concentrated on the comedy productions by Jean Girault , in which Louis de Funès often played the leading role. With Girault and de Funès' death, at the same time as his 60th birthday was completed, Bettex withdrew from active film work.
