Sylvère Caffot
Sylvère Caffot ( René Sylviano , born December 10, 1903 in Mantes-la-Jolie , † October 16, 1993 in Paris ) was a French composer.
The son of the composer Jules Caffot studied at the Conservatoire de Paris and won the Second Second Grand Prix de Rome in 1929 with the cantata La Vierge guerrière . Since the early 1920s he has been composing for the Varieté, a. a. the chanson Il faut savoir demander ça gentiment , interpreted by Jean Gabin .
Caffot became known as the composer of more than one hundred film scores under the name René Sylviano . Among them was the music for the first French-language sound film Le Chanteur inconnu (1931) by Viktor Tourjansky , François Premier (1937) by Christian-Jaque (with Fernandel ), Le Vicomte de Bragelone (1954) by Fernando Cerchio (with Georges Marchal ), Le Chômeur de Clochemerle (1957) by Jean Boyer (with Fernandel), Prisons de femmes (1958) and La Porteuse de pain (1963) by Maurice Cloche (with Philippe Noiret and Jean Rochefort ). As a chanson composer he wrote a. a. for Georges Guétary Si vous voulez savoir and La chanson de Venise and for Mistinguett Je suis née dans le faubourg St-Denis and Prenez mes mandarines .
Since 1945 Caffot was a member of the Council of SACEM , in 1947 he was a juror at the Festival de Cannes .
