Fernando Cerchio

Fernando Cerchio (born August 7, 1914 in Luserna San Giovanni , † August 19, 1974 in Mentana ) was an Italian screenwriter , film director , film editor and film producer .

Life

Cerchio studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti . He was interested in experimental films and in 1936 caught the attention of film critics with the animated film Notturno . From 1937 he studied at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia with Alessandro Blasetti .

From 1938 Cerchio worked for the Istituto Luce , for which he produced several documentaries. The film Comacchio won awards in Venice and Paris. He began his career as a film editor, but his first major directorial work, the feature film Cenerentola (1948), for which he also wrote the screenplay, was a success. By 1972 more than thirty feature films were made, including Gente so based on a screenplay by Giovanni Guareschi and the crime film Il bivio . In addition, Cerchio made numerous documentaries until the mid-1950s.
