Sylvain Arend
Sylvain Julien Victor Arend (born August 6, 1902 in Robelmont , Belgium , † February 18, 1992 ) was a Belgian astronomer .
Arend's main field was astrometry .
He discovered several comets , including the bright C / 1956 R1 (Arend-Roland) and the periodic comets 49P / Arend-Rigaux and 50P / Arend .
In addition, Arend discovered 51 asteroids , including (1127) Mimi , (1613) Smiley , (1640) Nemo , (1652) Hergé , (2866) Hardy , the Cupid asteroid (1916) Boreas and the Trojan (1583) Antilochus .
He also discovered a nova in the constellation Schild in 1952 , the Nova Scuti in 1952 .
The asteroid (1502) Arenda is dedicated to him.
