Sylvia Retzke

Sylvia Retzke (born October 21, 1950 in Schönebeck (Elbe) ; † March 28, 2016 ) was a German local politician ( SED ). She was Lord Mayor of Dessau and a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR .

Life

The daughter of a cooperative farming family graduated from high school with vocational training and high school diploma as a mechanic. From 1969 to 1973 she studied at the Berlin-Karlshorst School of Economics with a degree in economics.

From 1973 to 1978 she was a senior member of the Dessau City Council. In 1976 she became a member of the SED. From 1979 to 1984 she was city councilor for youth issues, physical culture and sport and from 1984 to 1990 mayor of Dessau (successor to Thea Hauschild ). After she was distrusted by the city council, she resigned on January 24, 1990. Since 1984 she has also been a member of the SED district leadership in Dessau and its secretariat. From 1986 to March 1990 she was a member of the People's Chamber of the GDR. She was a member of the SED parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the committee for citizens' submissions.

In December 1988 she was appointed to the central election commission of the GDR for the local elections on May 7, 1989. In May 1993 a trial against her began before the Dessau District Court. In June 1993, however, she was acquitted of allegations of election fraud. Otto Schily was her defense attorney in court.

After the reunification she worked as a self-employed financial advisor. Sylvia Retzke died at the age of 65.
