Sylvie Germain
Sylvie Germain (born January 8, 1954 in Châteauroux ) is a French author .
Life
Sylvie Germain studied philosophy at the Sorbonne (maîtrise 1976, doctorate 1981). In 1981 she started working in the Ministry of Culture. From 1986 to 1993 she switched to teaching philosophy and French at the École française in Prague and experienced the political movement in the dissident scene. She lives as a freelance writer in Paris and Pau .
She wrote a biography of Etty Hillesum .
Prices
In 2016 she received the Prix mondial Cino Del Duca . Her first novel Le Livre des nuits was published in 1981 and received several awards ( Prix du Lion's Club International, prix du Livre insolite, prix de Passion, prix Hermès, prix de la ville de Mans, prix Grevisse ). In 1989 she received the Prix Femina for Jours de colère . Her novel Magnus was awarded the 18th Prix Goncourt des lycéens (and was on the Polish shortlist of the Prix Goncourt) and her novel Les Échos du silence in 1997 with the Prix de littérature religieuse.
