Synagogue (Mainstockheim)
The synagogue in Mainstockheim , a community in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen ( Bavaria ), was built in 1836. The secular synagogue with the address An der Synagoge 9 is a protected architectural monument .
history
There was already an older synagogue in Mainstockheim. In the new two-storey hipped roof building with windows that have a characteristic round arch style from the time it was built, the inventory was taken from the old synagogue. The building also housed the community center of the Jewish community, the ritual bath ( mikveh ) and the Jewish elementary school .

In 1936 the Jewish community was able to celebrate the centenary of the synagogue.
During the November pogrom in 1938 , the interior of the synagogue, including the rituals, was destroyed by SA men and local residents. The building was preserved due to the intervention of the mayor, who had the synagogue doors sealed.
Conversion
After 1945, apartments for refugee families were set up in the synagogue building. The building later came into the possession of the Catholic parish, which has since used it as a Catholic community center.
Commemoration
A memorial plaque with the following text is attached to the building: “This building, built in 1836, served the Jewish community as a synagogue. The community commemorates its former Jewish fellow citizens. As a reminder and reminder ”.
