The synagogue in Pflaumloch , in the municipality of Riesbürg in Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg , was built from 1844 to 1846. The secular synagogue is at 13 Hauptstrasse.

In a major fire on August 20, 1802, the synagogue built in 1756 burned down. In 1803 it was rebuilt in the same place.

Since this synagogue soon proved to be too small, a new synagogue was built between 1844 and 1846. It is said to have been built on the model of the synagogue in Buchau . The ceremonial inauguration took place on December 18, 1846.

The building was built along the main street and is therefore not exactly orientated. Inside, the synagogue was supported by columns and arches on which the women's gallery ran on three sides.

After most of the Jewish residents emigrated, the Jewish community of Pflaumloch was dissolved in 1906. The Jewish community donated the synagogue building to the Pflaumloch community in 1907. The money for the renovation of the building was also made available to him.

In 1984 a memorial plaque was placed at the entrance. The building, which has hardly changed on the outside, still has some original ceiling paintings above the attic.

Reuse

During the National Socialist era , the synagogue building housed an NSV kindergarten.

From 1963/64, the former synagogue served as the town hall of the Pflaumloch community and, since the community reform in the 1970s, as the administrative building of the Riesbürg community.

Since September 2007 there has been a permanent exhibition on the history of the Jewish community in Pflaumloch in the former synagogue.
