The synagogue in Český Krumlov , German Krumau , a town in Jihočeský kraj in the Czech Republic , was built in 1908/09. The derelict synagogue has been a protected cultural monument since 1958 .

history

The synagogue was built in the southern suburb according to the plans of the Prague architect Victor Kafka (1880–1942?). Ignaz Spiro ensured that the synagogue fund was founded in the 19th century.

The building in neo-Romanesque style offered space for around 180 people. Services were held here until 1938 .

In the first two decades after the end of World War II , the synagogue building, which had been plundered during the Nazi era , was used by the Czech Hussite Church. After that, it served as a storage room for the theater sets.

After 1990 the Egon Schiele Art Centrum carried out the renovation of the synagogue in cooperation with the Jewish community in Prague.
