history

The Jewish community of Erfelden bought the building of a former bakery in Neugasse, which was converted into a synagogue. The synagogue was inaugurated on December 6, 1877. An area on the ground floor with a separate entrance was set up for the women. The synagogue has a square floor plan and striking pointed arch windows.

The synagogue building was sold by the Jewish community of Erfelden in 1937 and then converted into a residential building by the new owner.

Todays use

In 1989 the Association for the Promotion of Jewish History and Culture in the Groß-Gerau district was founded, which bought the building in June 1989 and restored it from 1989 to 1993. On May 18, 1994, the former synagogue was inaugurated as a cultural and meeting center.
