Synagogue (Forbach)
The synagogue in Forbach , a town in the French region of Lorraine , was built in 1833/34. The synagogue is on avenue Saint-Rémy.
history
In 1829 the Jewish community in Forbach was able to buy a piece of land to build a new synagogue, which was built in the 1830s. Major renovations took place in 1862/63, 1909 and 1929.
After the destruction by the National Socialists and war damage in World War II , the synagogue was restored in the 1950s.
Above the portal is the following inscription in French: "Love your neighbor as yourself". Below is the year "5594" (= 1833/34). The two tablets of the Law of the Ten Commandments are attached to the gable above the entrance .
