Synagogue in Maizières-lès-Vic (2013)

The synagogue in Maizières-lès-Vic , a commune in the Moselle department in the French region of Grand Est , was built from 1868 to 1872. The secular synagogue on the corner of Grand-Rue has been classified as a Monument historique since 2009 . In 2015 it was destroyed by fire.

history

The synagogue was built according to the plans of the architect Ferdinand Boudot (1816–1889) from Sarrebourg , who also built the synagogue of Phalsbourg in 1857 . The construction time fell at a time when the rural Jewish community was losing membership. The Consistoire Nancy was the official builder and funding was secured with grants from the political community and the state. The synagogue had to be closed as early as 1890 as there was no longer a Jewish community in the village.

The synagogue was sold in 1911 and has since been used as a barn and chicken coop. In 2015 the building was destroyed by fire.

architecture

The synagogue building with the arched window still had the rose window on the main facade and inside the Torah shrine and the stairs to the women's gallery .
