Synagogue (Herleshausen)

The synagogue in Herleshausen , a community in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse , was built in 1846. The synagogue was at 3 Lauchröder Strasse.

history

After the number of Jewish community members had increased sharply in the 1840s, the Jewish community decided to build a synagogue, which was inaugurated in 1848. In the years 1927/28 the synagogue building was extensively rebuilt and rebuilt after it had to be closed due to dilapidation. The renovated building had 78 places for men and 52 for women on the gallery . It was inaugurated on September 2, 1928 in the presence of the regional rabbi.

On the night of November 9-10, 1938, the synagogue was destroyed in the course of the November 1938 pogroms . The ruin was removed in 1939.

Commemoration

Since 2008 a plaque commemorates the synagogue in Herleshausen.
