The name Lauchröden is made up of the words "Luch" and "Ried" and thus describes the location of the place on the marshy, floodplain areas of the mouth of the Elte into the Werra .

history

Church in Lauchröden
Church in Lauchröden

The place was first mentioned in a document for the consecration of the Martinskapelle (today's Martinskirche ) in 1144. Its development is closely connected with the history of the Brandenburg and their masters. The place initially belonged to the rulership of Brandenburg and was therefore named as belonging to the Brandenburg courts , administratively the place probably belonged to the Wettin office of Wartburg ( Saxony-Eisenach ). With the abandonment of Brandenburg in the 16th century, the inhabitants of Lauchrödens used the stones of the castle as building materials for palaces and goods in the village. The current townscape is therefore still characterized by the massive stones of the Brandenburg.

In 1898 the inauguration of the first Werra bridge between Lauchröden and Herleshausen is celebrated. This ended the previously usual ferry service across the Werra and enabled easy access to the Frankfurt a. M. - Eisenach . From then on the employment structure changed. Numerous citizens looked for work in the Eisenach factories and only ran agriculture as a sideline.

During the Second World War , 14 women and men had to do forced labor in agriculture as so-called " Eastern workers " .

Towards the end of the Second World War, the original stone Werra bridge was blown up by soldiers of the US Army on April 1, 1945 . This resulted in severe damage to the place that had already been fired at with phosphorus shells. A temporary bridge built afterwards fell victim to a flood in 1947.

In the years 1952 to 1990 Lauchröden lay in the 500 m wide protection strip of the restricted area of the inner German border and was therefore not accessible for the GDR population outside the border area. Only in 1989 was a bridge built again over the Werra.

traffic

District road 505 leads through the village from Hörschel to Neustädt. From this the K 509 branches off, which leads south to Unterellen and Oberellen . Until 1945 there was a road connection to Herleshausen, which was interrupted with the destruction of the Werra Bridge at the end of the Second World War and the subsequent division of Germany. The replacement structure built in 1997 is only approved for pedestrians, cyclists and emergency vehicles.

The closest junction to the A4 is in Herleshausen , one kilometer away , as is the nearest train station.

Culture

For a long time the focal point of the village's cultural life was the Löwensaal in the center of the village. Numerous events were held in this hall, including the carnival and, until 2002, the fair. Due to the dilapidation, the hall was completely demolished and replaced by a new village community center in December 2006, which in turn was given the traditional addition of "Lion Hall". After the carnival was initially relocated and later suspended due to the dilapidation of the old hall, it was able to re-establish itself in the new village community center and has taken place regularly since then. The local Brandenburg musicians provide musical entertainment at numerous events.
