history

Away from the main town of Oberellen, several individual farms emerged as clearing islands in the side valleys of the Elte Valley: Frommeshof, Rangenhof, Hütschhof, Dachsberg ( desert ) and the Clausberg - probably originally a high medieval hermitage (rest stop) on the Rennsteig.

The farms recovered relatively quickly from the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War . The court, also called Frommelshof in the 17th century, belonged to the Henfstädter line of the Lords of Hanstein , they were cousins of the Hansteiner (Oberellen line), who were also based in Oberellen. The magnificent half-timbered house proves the prosperity of the population in the following years. Around 1830 a statistic mentions one house and six inhabitants - five men and one woman. As a result of the countless inheritance divisions, pledges and assignments of territory in Thuringia, Oberellen formed an enclave in the Eisenacher Land belonging to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen until 1920 . Hundreds of, often meter high, boundary stones around the town still bear witness to this special role. On March 16, 2004, the Frommeshof as a district of Oberellen became part of the Gerstungen unified community.
