The synagogue in Zweibrücken , a town in Rhineland-Palatinate , was built from 1877 to 1879 and destroyed during the November pogroms in 1938 . The synagogue was on the corner of Wallstrasse and Ritterstrasse.

history

The Jewish community in Zweibrücken previously owned a synagogue at the end of Judengasse , which was inaugurated in 1833. In 1871 a building site for the new synagogue was bought. It was built on the corner plot of Wallstrasse / Ritterstrasse according to plans by the architect and chief building officer von Siebert from Speyer and the district master builder Rau from Zweibrücken. The inauguration took place on August 1st and 2nd, 1879.

The two-storey sandstone cuboid building had tower-like risalits at the corners . On the west side there was a rose window above the portal . There were 150 places in the interior for men and 50 places in the women's gallery . The equipment also included an organ .

time of the nationalsocialism

The synagogue was set on fire by SS men during the November pogroms in 1938 . The interior and the roof structure burned out completely. The ruin was demolished in 1939.
