Syntrichia norvegica (German Norwegian composite tooth moss ) is a moss -Art in the family pottiaceae .

description

The species is similar to Syntrichia ruralis and, like this, forms loose lawns. The plants reach a height of about 2.5 centimeters. The leaves are folded and twisted when dry, when moist, arched back, ovate to tongue-shaped, pointed and with mostly reddish-brown, somewhat sawn glass hair. The leaf margins are bent over to above the middle of the leaf, flat on top.

The lamina cells are rectangular and hyaline at the base of the leaf, round to short rectangular in the upper half of the leaf, papilose on both sides with 3 to 6 papillae per cell and rich in chlorophyll. The back of the leaf vein is covered by the papillary lamina cells towards the tip of the leaf. A central strand is missing in the trunk cross-section.

The gender distribution is diocesan . The brown seta is 15 to 20 millimeters long, the reddish brown, slightly curved capsule 3 to 4 millimeters long, the peristome teeth are twisted twice. The papillary spores are 11 to 15 micrometers in size. Brood bodies are unknown.

Location claims and distribution

Syntrichia norvegica is a species of mountainous areas. In the Alps, it is quite common and common at altitudes over 1000 meters on limestone and calcareous silicate rock.

Worldwide there are occurrences in the mountains of Europe, Asia and North America.

Synonyms

The species is often referred to as Tortula norvegica (Web.) Lindb. called. Further synonyms are Syntrichia ruralis var. Norvegica (F.Weber) Steud. or Tortula ruralis var. alpina Wahlenb.

A variety with leaves without glass hair has been described as Tortula norvegica var. Calva WAKramer.
